1. Choose the right thermal grease
Most basic thermal grease compounds contain silicone and zinc oxide, while more expensive compounds contain excellent heat-resistant conductors, such as silver or ceramic. The advantage to silver or ceramic thermal grease is that you will have a more efficient heat transfer. However, basic thermal grease will be sufficient for most people.
If you are overclocking your computer plan, try to get the thermal paste made mainly of silver, copper and gold. These are the thermally conductive silicone greases that can be made to the most beneficial metals.
2.Clean CPU and heat sink surface
Use a cotton ball or cotton swab to gently wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol. The better ratio is higher. 70% is good, but 90% is better if it can be found.
3. Heat sink and processor surface if necessary
Ideally, these two contact surfaces would be completely flat, which would completely eliminate the need for thermal paste. If your radiator base is rough, you can wet it down and polish it to make it smoother. This is not always necessary unless your goal is ultimate cooling performance.
Thermal grease is used to fill gaps and defects on the surface to be added. Because modern production technology cannot make defect-free surfaces, thermally conductive silicone will always be necessary.
4. Place thermal grease in the center of the heat sink base
Paste beads should be smaller than BB or rice grains. If you know this should be "pea-sized", which is too much paste, you will end up pasting with the motherboard.
It is not necessary to spread the silicone grease circulation cooler, it will spread evenly on its surface due to the pressure applied
5. Attach an external heat sink to the processor
Instead of mounting the heat sink with pressure from all sides, and the beads you place on the surface will spread across the entire contact surface. This will create a thin, even layer, which will fill the void and also avoid over-accumulation.
6. Don't remove the radiator after installation
It can be difficult to check if your radiator has been applied correctly. If you break the seal created when installing the radiator, you will need to clean the old sticker first before restarting and then reapply it.
7. Reconnect the fan to the motherboard
The CPU fan wire should be plugged into the CPU fan socket, because it mainly has a PWM function, which allows the computer to automatically adjust the fan speed without changing the voltage.
